Putting together a recording studio is a beautiful project. I've got some experience in building a recording studio. Here are the equipment that I would get started with.
First is the audio interface. Focusrite gets the job done beautifully and 18i20 4th Gen is the way to go. It has enough inputs for all kinds of instruments and microphones so you can have your friends around for a recording session and it will be amazing. Basically in an Audio Interface you have your sound card and microphone inputs and volume and that kind of thing. It's a must have for a professional-grade recording studio.

Next up is the headphones and here I have choosen a nice bang for the buck choice by Sennheiser. I have experience with Sennheiser headphones myself and I have to say they really deliver for your money a lot of value. These are a great choice. Get two pairs if you want to listen with a friend, your audio interface has two headphone outputs.

The microphone has to be a high quality mic so you don't have to buy a new one any time soon. This logic applies to all gear I've chosen this time for this post. It is good enough and high-grade so you don't have to run to the shop again the next day and buy new ones because you need an upgrade. It's better to invest in these.

Acoustical treatments come in handy when building your recording studio. They look beautiful on the wall as well and they make the room sound better, with less sound coming back at you when it hits the wall of your room.
